During his presentation, Dr. McPheron will discuss the evolution of a faculty member as well as sharing an understanding of the full mission of colleges and universities. In his perspective, educators not only have an obligation to discover new knowledge, but also must disseminate that knowledge. In too many institutions, “scholarship” is a synonym for “research.” In his career, Dr. McPheron has had the opportunity for self-discovery and the gift of perspectives of many colleagues that have shaped his personal definition of scholarship. His career was capped with trying to shape the definition of scholarship for an entire academic institution. He’ll talk about struggles, successes, missed opportunities, and the path forward.
